About My Chemical Romance
My Chemical Romance is an alternative rock band originating from New Jersey, USA.
Becoming active since 2001, it was formed from five members: Gerard Way for the lead vocals, guitarist Frank Iero and guitarist Ray Toro, Mikey Way playing bass, as well as James Dewees for the keyboards. They haven’t stayed put for long, because, soon after they started local concerts, a label signed them. That label was Eyeball Records, which put them to work in a studio in order to release an album. The work for the album was finished in a year and, in 2002, they released it, calling it "I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love".
In 2003, however, because of a disagreement, My Chemical Romance moved to another label and got signed by Reprise Records.
Another year of studio work appeared and, in 2004, they released their second album, this time for a major label. Their 2004 album was titled "Cheers for Sweet Revenge" and was fairly successful, especially commercially. By 2005, the album even got certified Platinum.
Their name has just begun to be known in the rock scene, but, due to their 2006 release, things were about to change. Their next album was called "The Black Parade" and was praised by critics and was viewed with good eyes by the public as well. Tours and concerts kept them busy, but work in the studio was necessary once again and they started working on album number four. In late 2010, the album was ready and got released, being called "Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys". Positive reviews kept coming for them and they achieved great fame, which kept growing.
Their next release consisted of a bunch of singles, which got incorporated in a new release, a compilation. The compilation was called "Conventional Weapons". They disbanded as of the 22nd of March, 2013. In 2014, "May Death Never Stop You" got released as a greatest hits compilation.
The musical style of My Chemical Romance has been one that ranged from punk rock, post-hardcore, pop punk, but the main genre has been alternative rock.
Their emo style has been criticized during the years, but the fans loved them for being original. Their first album was thought to be specific to the emo style, featuring screams and even heavy metal influences. As of their third album, their style softened, featuring more of a pop punk and pop rock style.
