Hoagy Carmichael is the name of a composer and pianist from Bloomington, Indiana.
He has been born under the name Howard Hoagland Carmichael on the 22nd of November, year 1899. He has also been a singer and bandleader, as well as an actor. His most famous works are the works of "Stardust", "The Nearness of You", "Georgia on My Mind", "Heart and Soul".
During his career, he has been associated with other musical acts, such as Sidney Arodin, Fred Astaire, Ray Charles, Jimmy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Harry James, Frank Loesser, Glenn Miller, Paul Whiteman, Louis Armstrong, Bix Biederbecke, Bing Crosby, Tommy Dorsey, Helen Forrest, Spike Jones, Johnny Mercer, Dinah Shore.
He first starred in the movie "Topper" from the year 1937, with the role of the piano player.
Seven years later, he interpreted the role of Cricket in the film "To Have and Have Not". One year later, he acted in "Johnny Angel", with the role of Celestial O’Brien. In 1946, he starred in two other films, namely "Canyon Passage" with the role of Hi Linnet, then "The Best Years of Our Lives", in which he played Uncle Butch.
In 1947, he starred in "Night Song" with the role of Chick Morgan. In 1949, he played himself for the movie "Johnny Holiday".

The first song that he composed was called "Riverboat Shuffle", with lyrics by himself, as well as Dick Voynow, Mitchell Parish, Irving Mills. One year later, he also worked on "Washboard Blues", written by himself and Irving Mills plus Fred B. Callahan. In 1928, he wrote "Stardust", one year later "Rockin’ Chair".
The year 1930 was the year of the song "Georgia on My Mind", one year later also composing "Come Easy Go Easy Love". That same year, he composed "(Up a) Lazy River". In 1932, he helped compose three songs, "New Orleans", "Daybreak" and "In the Still of the Night". He has also composed "Watermelon Weather", "Memphis in June", "Skylark", "I Walk with Music" and many others.
