The song was both written and produced by the famous Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.
The single was an instant success of Elvis Presley.
It's release was timed to coincide with the release of the motion picture movie "Jailhouse Rock", directed by Richard Thorpe and starring Elvis Presley, Judy Tyler, and Mickey Shaughnessy and distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM).
The song "Jailhouse Rock" reached the 67th position on Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
It was titled as being one of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.
The single, along with its B-side hit "Treat Me Nice", topped the musical charts all over the world. In the United States, the single stayed in the first position for seven weeks straight in the fall of 1957.
Also, in the United Kingdom, the song stayed on the first position for three weeks early in 1958.
"Jailhouse Rock" also spent one week at the top of the country charts and reached the second place on the R&B charts.
