About Elvis Presley
Elvis Aaron Presley, better known after his infamous stage name Elvis Presley, was born on the 8th of January 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi, United States of America.
He was a renowned American musician, actor and most of all, singer. He is also known after the "the King of Rock and Roll", or simply, "the King" aliases. Elvis Presley was an icon of the 20th century.
He inspired generations of singers, musicians and actors with his voice and acting skills.
Presley's musical career was started in the year 1954, at the age of 19.
He started a collaboration with Sam Philips, owner of Sun Records. Elvis Presley was soon accompanied by bassist Bill Black and guitarist Scotty Moore. Presley was an early popularizer of rockabilly, an uptempo, backbeat-driven fusion of country music and rhythm and blues.
Elvis Presley was managed by Colonel Tom Parker for over twenty years. RCA Victor acquired his contract in a deal in which Colonel Tom Parker was involved. He arranged the deal. Elvis released his first single titled "Heartbreak Hotel" under the umbrella of RCA Victor in the year 1956, in January. The King's single soon became the number one hit in all of United States musical charts.
"His energized interpretations of songs and sexually provocative performance style, combined with a singularly potent mix of influences across color lines that coincided with the dawn of the Civil Rights Movement, made him enormously popular—and controversial."
In the year 1956, the same one with his first album release, Elvis Presley made his first star appearance in the movie Love Me Tender. The movie was released in November. In 1958, Elvis was drafted in the army for mandatory military service. There were a total of twenty number one albums that had the king's name written all over them.
Some of the albums were released postmortem. He also starred in multiple movies and had more than a few record breaking number one singles.
He died at the age of 42, on the 16th of August 1977 in Memphis, Tennessee, United States of America. Elvis Presley's death was officially pronounced at 3:30 pm at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Even though he got ill and died in a moment when some other ones just achieve their first successes, Elvis means a lot for the music industry, being one of the most celebrated artists of the 20th century.
In the development of the man Elvis as an artist, the singer demonstrated his skills in many genres, including gospel, pop, and blues and among his many successes registered the title of "Best selling solo artist in the history of recorded music", having sold around 600 million units all over the world.
To this success we may add the 14 Grammy nominations, of which 3 won, being the one received at the age of 36, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He became part of many Halls of Fame, and a special reason for his early unprecedented fame was represented by the strong rivalry between Steve Allen and Ed Sullivan, the well known variety show hosts.
He was a central figure of rock music and its development, being called by Katherine Charlton "rockabilly's originator", and many of Elvis' songs have a beautiful melodic line, as you can discover and you may be amazed how great piano representations you may have the opportunity to hear, having as a source, if can be named so, many of the artist's famous songs, as for example "Love Me Tender", which won the souls of many in love or in the pursuit of love people, becoming history.
