About REM

R.E.M. was a rock band that was formed in the year 1980, in Athens, Georgia, U.S..

R.E.M is a band which had a really important influence in the 80’s and early 90’s, being one of the first alternative rock bands.

The band’s first single was "Radio Free Europe", which was released in 1981. After that, in 1982 the second single came out, named "Chronic Town EP".

A great step was made in 1983 for the band, when the album "Murmur" has been released. In the same year the band has made its first national television appearance on Late Night with David Letterman.

The band members were Michael Stipe - vocals -, Peter Buck - guitar, mandolin -, Mike Mills - bass, keyboards, vocals - and Bill Berry- drums, vocals -.

The early 1990’s was a real success for the band, while they took advantage of great popularity.

In 1992 the album "Automatic For the People" was released. It was the eight studio album of the band. The album included the most popular track named "Everybody Hurts".

After over 30 years together, on September 21st 2011, R.E.M. announced that they had split up.
