About Kiss

Kiss is the name of an American hard rock band, which was first started in the beginning of year 1973, in the city of New York.

The members have remarked themselves with cool outfits and painted masks, which made them hallmark figures in the heavy metal and glam metal genres.

Kiss is also known for wonderful and exceptional live performances, incorporating stuff as breathing fire, guitars with smoke, spitting blood and many other pyrotechnique elements.

The band, after a few performances, started recording their debut album in October 1973, in December premiering officially at the Academy of Music. In the beginning of 1974, they toured in Canada and, just 2 weeks after, their self-titled album got released.

Their second album was titled "Hotter Than Hell", released in October, 1974. The first two albums were not very successful, their fame starting with their third one, the 1975 "Dressed to Kill", which spawned one of their signature songs, "Rock and Roll All Nite".

In 1975 Kiss also released a live album titled "Alive!", which reached Gold certification, one of their live singles hitting Top 40 on the charts. The next album was "Destroyer" in 1976, which spawned "Beth", a ballad which performed well on the radio.

Since 1976, Kiss was on a roll, releasing "Rock and Roll Over" in 1976 and "Love Gun" in 1977, both very successful. Along with "Alive II", these three albums got Platinum certification. In 1978 they released a first album with greatest hits, namely "Double Platinum". The song "Strutter ‘78" became one of their trademark songs.

The fan club for Kiss was very active, making their merchandise sell faster than gold, making the group fairly rich by 1978, when they released four albums, "Gene Simmons", "Ace Frehley", "Peter Criss" and "Paul Stanley". Until 1985 they released yearly album after album: "Dynasty", "Unmasked", "Music from "The Elder"", "Creatures of the Night", "Lick It Up" and "Asylum".

Kiss has been an influence for many names, including Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Motley Crue, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, Dream Theater, Slayer, Black Veil Brides, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Rob Zombie, Rage Against The Machine, Nine Inch Nails and many others.

Their last seven albums were "Crazy Nights" in 1987, "Hot in the Shade" in 1989, "Revenge" in 1992, "Carnival of Souls: The Final Sessions" in 1997, "Psycho Circus" in 1998, "Sonic Boom" in 2009 and "Monster" in 2012.

Known for their sleek hooks and loud guitars, Kiss have put the foundation for arena rock, as well as the pop-metal genre, they have been called an "extreme form of hard rock".
