Aerosmith is composed of five members: Joe Perry (guitarist), Tom Hamilton (bassist), Steven Tyler (vocalist, harmonicist and pianist), Joey Krammer (drummer) and Brad Whitford (guitarist). Back in 1971, Whitford replaced Ray Tabano.
"Janie’s Got a Gun" was written by Steven Tyler and Tom Hamilton. Initially, the song was named "Danny’s Got a Gun" after a friend of Tyler’s, but later on, the title was changed. The song was released as the second single from the "Pump" album back in 1989.
"Janie’s Got a Gun" managed to obtain the 4th position in Billboard Top 100 and the 2nd position in Mainstream Rock Tracks charts. It is worth mentioning that the tune also managed to obtain and keep the no. 1 spot in Australian music charts for several consecutive weeks.
It took Tyler approximately nine months to finish the song lyrics, being inspired by an article describing several gun shots. Tyler artistically managed to relate the tune with other important themes and motives back in the days, such as child abuse and incest.
