About Led Zeppelin
Led Zeppelin was an English rock band that was formed of Jimmy Page, the guitarist, Robert Plant, the singer, John Bonhan, the drummer and John Paul Jones, the bassist and keyboardist.
They formed the band in 1968, in London, the United Kingdom. Throughout the time, they have approached many musical genres such as blues rock, heavy metal, folk rock and hard rock.
The band was initially named the Yardbirds. In terms of musical style, they were rooted in the blues and also used country, soul, funk, rock and roll, reggae and jazz on their early tracks. Their first two albums were folk songs and blues standards. Also, they are considered the progenitors of heavy metal and hard rock, having had a wide influence in the area.
Their discography includes the album "Led Zeppelin", released in 1969, "Led Zeppelin II", in the same year, "Led Zeppelin III", in 1970, "Led Zeppelin IV", in 1971, "Houses Of The Holy", in 1973, "Physical Graffiti", in 1975, "Presence", in 1976, "In Through The Out Door", in 1979, and "Coda", in 1982.
Led Zeppelin is one of the most influential and successful rock bands to have activated in the music industry.
They influenced important artists such as Deep Purple, Rush, Queen, Black Sabbath, Megadeth and others. They influenced the formation of alternative rock, that was adopted by Nirvana, the Smashing Pumpkins and others.
Singers that approach different genres have also been influenced by the band: Shakira, Lady Gaga, Madonna and Katie Melua. They also had a great impact on the development of album-orientated rock and stadium rock. The band as sold up to this day more than 200 million albums throughout the world.
They are also one of the most bootlegged bands of all time, number four on list of highest selling music acts in the United States and the second best selling band of all time.
Their list of achievements includes the induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, from 1995, into the UK Music Hall Of Fame, from 2006, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, an American Music Award, the Polar Music Prize, five of their albums have been certified diamond, fourteen have been certified multi-platinum, four tracks in the Grammy Hall Of Fame, five albums that have certified multi-platinum in the United Kingdom and also five albums included on the list of "500 Greatest Albums Of All Time".
They are number 14 on Rolling Stone's list of "Greatest Artists Of All Time" and number one on the list of "100 Greatest Artists Of hard Rock", made by VH1.
