It was used by Yamagata Broadcasting Company on their final analog television broadcast on July 24th, 2011.
The song is part of the album "The Memory Of Trees", which was released on December 5th, 1995. It sold over 9 million copies in two years and it received a Grammy Award for Best New Age Album.
"China Roses" was written by Roma Ryan and composed by Enya, like all of the other songs from the album. "The Memory Of Trees" contained successful songs like "Pax Deorum", "The Memories Of Trees", "Oriel Window", which was a bonus track on the Japanese edition, "Anywhere Is", "Athair Ar Neamh", "La Sonadora", "Hope Has A Place", "From Where I Am", "Tea House Moon", "On My Way Home" and "Once You Had Gold".
"Pax Deorum" has its lyrics written in Latin, the title meaning "Peace Of The Gods", "Athair Ar Neamh" is written in Irish, meaning "Heavenly father" and "La Sonadora" is written in Spanish. Notably, "Oriel Window" and "From Where I Am" do not have any lyrics being piano solos.
"The Memories Of Trees" was featured in the movie "Shot Through The Heart", which was released in 1998 and "Once You Had Gold" appeared on the film "Knocked Up", from 2007.
Also, "Pax Deorum" was included on the documentary "For The Bible Tells Me So", in 2007.
The songs were engineered, produced, recorded and mixed by Nicky Ryan at the Aigle Studios. The art work was inspired from the oil painting "The Young King Of The Black Isles". The executive producer of the song was Rob Dickins and the mastering engineer, Arun Chakraverty. It covers three musical styles consisting in pop, new age and celtic.
"China Roses" has a duration of 4:47 being one of the longest songs on the album, most of them running less than four minutes.
The album was certified double platinum in Europe, the United Kingdom, four times platinum in Australia, three times platinum in the United States, Spain and Japan, and platinum in Netherlands, Austria, Sweden, Brazil and Canada.
The Limited Edition Remastered was released in Japan, in 2009, and it featured three bonus tracks.
