About Katy Perry
Katy Perry, on her full name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson is a famous American singer and songwriter.
She was born on October 25th, 1984, in Santa Barbara, California.
She became interested in gospel music during her teenage and entered the industry in 2000. She signed with Red Hill Records and released an album named "Katy Hudson".
Later, she started writing songs with the producer Glen Ballard and moved from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles. Soon after, she became the vocalist of a record production team named The Matrix, and signed with The Island Def Jam Music Group.
After an unsuccessful collaboration, the singer turned to Columbia Records.
A previous song, "Simple", appeared on the soundtrack of the movie "The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants". In late 2004, she was named "The Next Big Thing" by Blender. In 2007, she signed with Capitol Music Group and started working on her breakthrough songs "I Kissed A Girl" and "Hot N Cold", as part of her second album, "One Of The Boys".
The first was released on April 28th, 2008 and topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The latter was released later that year, in September and became number one in many countries such as Germany, Austria, Canada and Netherlands. Perry embarked on the Warped Tour throughout the country and later on a worldwide one, Hello Katy Tour.
She served as the opening act for No Doubt on the Summer Tour 2009. Her next single was "California Girls", along Snoop Dogg, and it was part of her third album, "Teenage Dream". The album topped the Billboard Hot 200 and it sold almost 6 million copies throughout the world. The following single, also the title song of the album, topped the Billboard Hot 100 as well as the third one, "Firework".
One of her most successful songs to date, it was certified nine times platinum in the United States. The next single, "E.T.", a collaboration with Kanye West, reached number one on Billboard Hot 100, and stayed there for five weeks.
Other hits from the album also include "The One That Got Away" and "Part Of Me".
In January, Katy Perry was number six on the list of the best selling artists, after selling more than 37 million units. She started working on her fourth album, "Prism", in 2012. It includes hits like "Roar", "Unconditionally" and "Dark Horse".
Perry cited many artists as influences. This includes Queen, Alanis Morissette, The Beach Boys, Bjork and Gwen Stefani.
One of the most successful contemporary artists, she sold more than 11 albums and 81 million singles.
