About Bill Haley

Bill Haley, born William John Clifton Haley was an American musician, one of the first to have ever played rock and roll music.

He is the man who brought the genre into the public attention in the early 1950's. Having sold more than 25 million records worldwide he became a genuine icon of rock and roll.

Download the Bill Haley free piano sheet music here, on the site. The artist was born on the 6th of July in Highland Park, Michigan. Because of the Great Depression his family was forced to move to the state of Pennsylvania when he was seven years old.

Both of his parents had musical background. Haley told the story that when he made a simulated guitar out of cardboard, his parents bought him a real one. Here is what the sleeve notes accompanying the 1956 album "Rock Around The Clock" describe Haley's early life and career:

"Bill got his first professional job at the age of 13, playing and entertaining at an auction for the fee of $1 a night. Very soon after this he formed a group of equally enthusiastic youngsters and managed to get quite a few local bookings for his band."

"When Bill Haley was fifteen he left home with his guitar and very little else and set out on the hard road to fame and fortune. The next few years, continuing this story in a fairy-tale manner, were hard and poverty-stricken, but crammed full of useful experience."

His life's work consists of his music, download Haley's free piano sheets and play his greatest hits yourself. He started to play with the group "Down Homers" in Hartford, Connecticut. After that he decided to make a name for himself and started his first band Four Aces of Western Swing. For a while he was known the "Silver Yodeling Bill Haley".

He got a job as musical director at Radio Station WPWA in Chester, Pennsylvania for six years and the leader of his own band, Bill Haley's Saddlemen. On the Labor day weekend in 1952, the band changed it's name to Bill Haley with Haley's Comets after which, in 1953, they recorded the very first rock and roll song ever Crazy Man, Crazy.

Soon after their name was shortened to Bill Haley&His Comets. Then came the recording of Rock Around the Clock, Shake, Rattle and Roll, See You Later, Alligator; Don't Knock the Rock, all great hits.
