About Owl City

Owl City is the name of a EDM project by Adam Young, a singer and songwriter.

Being active since 2007, the project started in Minnesota. He managed to sign with the label Republic Records in 2008 and began releasing works independently. After two such feats, in 2009 Owl City debuted majorly with the album called "Ocean Eyes". From this album, a hit single was born, namely "Fireflies", which managed to become certified Platinum six times. By mid 2010, the album received Platinum certification in the United States.

The first album for Owl City was, however, the 2008 one titled "Maybe I’m Dreaming".

The album reached rank 13 on the Billboard Electronic Albums charts. In late 2010, Owl City released " All Things Bright and Beautiful", then in 2012 "The Midsummer Station". The project was involved in creating songs for films such as "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole", "The Croods", "Wreck-It Ralph" and "The Smurfs 2", all animated ones.

"Alligator Sky" was the lead single for "All Things Bright and Beautiful", followed by "Galaxies", which was single number two. The last two singles from the album were "Deer in the Headlights" and "Lonely Lullaby". In 2012, he also worked alongside Carly Rae Jepsen for the song "Good Time", which was received with positive reviews and critics. In 2013, instead of an album, the project released an EP titled "The Midsummer Station – Acoustic EP".

In 2014, Owl City worked with Lindsey Stirling, a violinist, to produce and release a new single. It was called "Beautiful Times". The next EP was called "Ultraviolet". The music of Owl City incorporates genres such as indietronica, synthpop and Young himself states influences from the disco genre. Drone and post-rock genres, as well as ambient are thought to be inspirations for Owl City as well.

In live events, Young has been accompanied by supporting members such as Breanne Duren for vocals and keyboards, guitarist Jasper Nephew, drummers Casey Brown, Steve Goold and Matt Decker, as well as guitarist and bassist Daniel Jorgensen. The last three members were violinist Laura Musten, vocalist Austin Tofte and cello player Hannah Schroeder.

Owl City has also been associated with acts such as Port Blue, Lights, Sky Sailing, Matthew Thiessen, Breanne Duren and Windsor Airlift. The instruments used by Adam Young in the music production process range from Pro Tools to guitars and banjos, as well as accordion, vibraphone or percussion.
