You Raise Me Up free piano sheet music by Josh Groban

About the song

"You Raise Me Up" is a track originally by Secret Garden, with lyrics by Brendan Graham and composed by Rolf Lovland.

It had minor success in the UK due to the addition of vocalist Brian Kennedy. The date of the first release was the 26th of March, 2002. Many other versions of the songs have appeared since then, over 100 musicians taken it on.

The best version of "You Raise Me Up" was the one from Josh Groban, who made the song a hit in the United States in 2003, just one year after the initial version. A song originally called "Silent Story" and meant to be without vocals, inspired from the "Danny Boy" song from 1910. Initial commercial success for the Secret Garden version appeared only in Norway and Ireland.

Other artists who covered the songs are Westlife, Daniel O’Donnell, Wesley Klein. Westlife’s version topped the UK charts.

O’Donnell reached moderate success with rank 22 in the UK. Klein’s version got to the fourth place in the Netherlands. Peter Corry and Brian Kennedy released it on an EP, which got to the fourth place in the UK. The name of the EP was "George Best – A Tribute".

The year 2004 was a popular year for the song, since it received heavy airplay on the US radio stations. Since 2005, there already were over 80 versions of the song. At the Gospel Music Awards, several versions received nominations, even one for "Song of the Year".

The Josh Groban version was released on the tenth of September, 2004 as an operatic pop type of song. At the time a beginner, Groban was helped by tenor Craig Von Vennik to compose and perform the song. David Foster was the producer, who made it available through a number of 3 labels. Those were the 143 Records, Warner Bros. Records and Reprise Records.

This version reached the top of the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts in 2004, staying at the top for over a month. On the Billboard Hot 100, it reached as high as rank 73. In 2005, it received a nomination at the Grammy Awards.

Groban performed his version of "You Raise Me Up" at the Super Bowl XXXVIII, then, in 2007, at the concert Idol Gives Back. Another live performance was on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in August, 2007.

"You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban reached rank 54 on the Austrian charts, 26 on the Danish charts, 16 on the French ones, 54 on the Swiss charts. In UK, it charted at rank 74 on the Singles Charts.
